Membership
General
Membership is open, on subscription, to serving Police Officers and Staff within The Police Service of Scotland.
The current monthly cost to subscribe (As of 1st April 2024) is £1.95, which is deducted before tax from a members salary. As such the actual cost to the member is no more than £1.56 per calendar month.
Serving Police Officers and Staff (or retired) who are (or were) non-subscribing members (see note*) are NOT eligible to make a claim against the Fund.
Members of the Special Constabulary are not eligible for membership.
New members taking up a subscription upon joining The Police Service of Scotland are afforded a bonus period of 3 months free prescription prior to commencing payment and eligible to claim with immediate effect.
Any member taking up a subscription out with their initial enrolment period with The Police Service of Scotland, or re-joining having left the fund previously, will commence payment immediately upon joining and will have a 12 month qualifying period whereby they are ineligible to make a claim to the fund.
Application for membership
Any person who wishes to become a member must sign a written application for membership and submit the application, along with remittance to meet the membership subscription , to the Secretary of the Fund where it will be considered by the Board at its meeting.
The Board may, at its discretion, refuse to admit any person to membership.
The Board will notify each applicant promptly (in writing or by e-mail) of its decision on whether or not to admit him/her to membership. If the decision was to refuse admission, the board shall return to the applicant the remittance lodged by him/her.
Note: * – Exclusion to claim does not apply to Officers or Police Staff who’s subscription has been temporarily paused due to maternity leave or reasons of ill health.
